Poetry

To read more of my poems click on the Poems link listed under A Little Extra.

Most of my poems start off as being the inspiration for a song and sometimes lines from my poems are nicked from songs and/or visa versa.

I love poetry but often I only read it when I am feeling quite emotional about one thing or another…not sure what that means as sometimes it is to uplift me and other times it is so I can wallow for a little longer.

But I write poetry at various times, sometimes when I am trying to force a song out (sometimes that can be a real challenge) and sometimes they just come from something I have heard or seen.

I have a lyric book, in it I record things that amuse me, comments I hear from others and any lovely word combinations that cross my path, word combinations with lovely assonance, meter, prosody, timbre or alliteration. Sometimes just a couple of words, a single word or maybe a whole sentence. I find that music lyrics often inspire me to write.

Here is my favourite poem: Only because I can remember it, I don’t even know who it is by….

Gun, Head. Bang, Dead!

I write poetry when the feeling moves me to do so. I find this only happens when I am feeling something that doesn’t quite fit a mood to write prose… I can’t explain it better than that. I just know it when it happens. I’m off to read some of yours now 😉
