Day 20 – How important you think education is.
Incredibly important, both formal and informal. I also think people should love it. Having an enquiring mind, retaining some wonder about the world around you keeps your mind active, your views open and your ignorance levels low.
I think the most important thing about education, which is rarely taught, is that it is okay to ask questions about anything. If I don’t understand or know what is going on, I ask, regardless of the situation or the scenario. Occasionally some imbecile will ridicule me for asking a ‘stupid’ question but like I say when watching TV programmes like Who Want’s To Be A Millionaire or Mastermind, the questions are only easy if you know the answers!
I love finding out new facts, (I love QI & Stephen Fry); the history of a saying or phrase, the etymology of a word, the shape, size and speed of the known universe; macro, micro, artistic, quantum, subatomic, psychological, anthropological, theological, astronomical, biological, physical, sociological, neurological and so on and so on… and the best bit about it; I forget half of what I learn so I have the chance to learn it all again ; )
‘He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.’ A Chinese proverb.
