I don’t go to my blog for just over a week and there are 240 Spam messages/comments in my inbox plus three genuine comments – insanity, almost makes it impossible/implausible to read/reply to genuine comments.

The WordPress spam filter spots them all but it also catches all new genuine comments in the spam filter, I wish WordPress would sort out a better spam filter that would allow me to block the persistent offenders or report them or something.
