March Photo A Day – Day #5

March Photo A Day – Day #5 Negative Space

Negative Space

This is a reflection off the window that is in front of the darkened space above the Norman barrel vault roof at Farnham Castle. It is the only known example of an enclosed Norman barrel vault roof, it can be viewed intact from above via a viewing window. The surface of limestone embedded in lime mortar has survived all these years because it is not exposed to the elements as it is enclosed under a timber roof structure.
