Ironbridge

Ironbridge, Shropshire, England – Another heritage site I used to manage.

The world’s first iron bridge erected in 1779 by Abraham Darby over the River Severn. Britain’s best-known industrial monument, the bridge gave its name to the spectacular wooded gorge which, though now tranquil, was once an industrial powerhouse and the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. Ironbridge Gorge is now a World Heritage Site. It is open to the public and managed by English Heritage.
